(792) Does Right Ventricular Support with Mechanical Assist Devices Compromise Outcome for Heart Transplantation?

چکیده
PurposeRight ventricular (RV) failure is uncommon in patients awaiting heart transplantation (HTx). However, this small group of may require the placement a durable RVAD or temporary (tRVAD). It has not been well-established as to waitlist mortality post-transplant course for these patients.MethodsBetween 2012 and 2020, we assessed 20 who developed RV requiring (n=3) (tRVAD, n=17). The tRVAD included following: Impella RP (n=6), CentriMag TandemHeart (n=5). These were 3- 6-month on waitlist, if transplanted, survival at 30-days 1-year post-transplant. A case-controlled matched age, gender era without mechanical circulatory support (MCS) prior transplant was used control.ResultsPatients with assist devices compared MCS (control) had similar waitlist. Post-transplant, comparable 30 days control patients.ConclusionRV supported significant risk candidacy (waitlist mortality) outcome. Larger studies are needed confirm findings. Right patients. Between control. Patients

Right ventricular (RV) failure remains a major cause of global morbidity and mortality for patients with advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, or acute myocardial infarction and after major cardiac surgery. Over the past 2 decades, percutaneously delivered acute mechanical circulatory support pumps specifically designed to support RV failure have been introduced into clinical practice...

Clinical Challenge What can we offer a 70-year-old retired schoolteacher hospitalized with congestion for the third time in 6 months? The LVEF is 21%. Shortness of breath interrupts sleeping and dressing, and peak oxygen consumption of 9 mL/kg per minute confirms NYHA Class IV status. He has noninsulindependent diabetes and chronic coronary artery disease, with patent grafts to thin-caliber ves...

BACKGROUND Heart failure is a clinical syndrome of major epidemiological and economical importance. In Germany as in other industrialised countries it is one of the leading causes of mortality, morbidity and disability. For patients not responding to medical therapies ventricular assist devices are used as bridge to transplant, bridge to recovery or as destination therapy alternative to transpl...
متن کاملVentricular Assist Devices for Pediatric Heart Disease
Mechanical Circulation Assist Devices are designed for the treatment of acute and chronic heart failure and can be applied for different indications and assist period. Treatments that are carried out with Ventricular Assist Device System (VADs) have improved over course of time, within the practical applications of pediatric cardiac surgery. Pulsatile devices being in the lead, paracorporeal as...
